The boy you wish you didn't see

Have you seen him ..
That boy in the corner of the road.
With tattered clothes, with naked feet.
Beggin' for a penny, in this merciless heat?

Have you seen him ..
The innocent craving in his eyes,
As he gazes at that boy peddling away.
He looks down on himself, and its all a dull dismay.

Have you seen him ..
As he runs near the leftovers.
His dry mouth salivatin' at the sight of jus a nibble of food.
Its Destiny's game- crass, unfair and rude.

Have you seen him ..
As he rushes to the other side of the street ..
gets runs over by a lorry, in an air so bleak.

Have you seen him ..
The boy to whose corpse no one rushes,
The boy whose memory will instantly fade away.
The boy who will be consumed in Darkness, Death and Dismay.

  1. Incomparable feelings, we have a thing to cry on and the person next to you have a thousand. But really, even if no one cares for that boy here, well I'm sure he'll be cared when his soul reaches heaven.

--You only have 3 lines in the 4th stanza, all of the others have 4 lines, you should make that a 4 line too. :)

  2. Maybe, all of us see but just refuse to believe. That death, though inevitable can be delayed if we all lend a helping hand to those who need it the most. :)

  3. you have brilliantly portrayed the dismay...

  4. I have, Crystal. We all have. And most of us are dead enough to not be able to do anything about their dismay, darkness and the pity they invite.
I feel sorry for those who can only be sorry for such poor people.

  6. The harsh misery of those who live on the edge in making two ends meet has been truly depicted by lovely weave of words, Aayushi!

  8. Ahhh how poignant is this.

I have seen many boys and girls like this. The only thing I can do is watch them in despair and I hate the fact that I can't do anymore more :(

  9. I have- every single day! This post is a sad one but the visions I got after reading this post were different from what you portrayed because after seeing him I never sit and relax. I offer him anything he wants, do whatever I can at that moment!
This post does make me feel bad but I am glad that there was no guilt factor in me after reading this. I know I am trying :)

  11. Packed a punch - but what's even more sad is the fact that most of these children really could've been given a better future, if not for the syndicates that turn them into beggars for their own ulterior motives. They're kept hungry on purpose, and sometimes even maimed to up the 'pity' quotient. Sad. Really sad.

Yes, I have. and yet somehow, I haven't.

That's the funny thing about life. we always have to put a price on it. :(

  19. We crib about endless things, while poor kids like the one you wrote about, have nothing. The pain they might be feeling, is something we'll never go through. Their life is so miserable.. It's just so sad. You put up the scene very well with your beautiful words.
A very touching post indeed. The last line gave me the chills!
